Long Term Development of a Young Player
Long Term Development of a Young Athlete
My philosophy and our philosophy at Scarborough Tennis Academy is around the development of your child/athlete over the long term. To focus on what level they can achieve when they have finished high school not on just on whether they will win tomorrow.
The Junior years can be stressful as parents and kids fight for rankings, status and confidence boosters. There can unfortunately be a lot of short term measures by coaches and also parents looking for the quick fix. Kids need to be constantly pushed to achieve but it takes time to develop their training habits and performance. The key is not to take short cuts with a players development but focus over the long term.
The kids who are involved in our programs over the long term almost always see improvement in other areas of their academic and personal lives, along with other sporting endeavours. We seek to create leaders through tennis.
Our kids also go on to achieve high levels of tennis including a national doubles titles, national doubles runners up along with other state and national placed results and rankings.
Only a select group of tennis players make it through to the pro ranks and make a good living out of it. If we can develop an athlete into an impressive leader who understands the importance of setting goals, training hard and doing it with integrity then we achieved real success as a tennis academy.
John Wooden, one of the most famous basketball coaches of all time had something called a pyramid of success, its brilliant and relates to all facets of life. This can be learned through tennis.
