Do you bend like a Frog or a Giraffe?

Tennis is a sport which requires you to move across or down the court and then set your body up for the next shot. The key is to get down low to the ball.

However, the problem is that not everyone does this.  The most common problem is when  you don’t bend your knees correctly and become unbalanced.

The danger here is three fold.

  1. You are in danger of hurting yourself.
  2. You are in danger of not producing enough power.
  3. You are in danger of not seeing the ball well and being off balance when you strike your shot.

This can be forced upon you if a ball is really wide and you don’t have enough time to set up the legs.

If you are one of these players then you bend like a giraffe!

If however when you have time you set your legs up low and with great balance then you can give yourself the best chance to succeed by:

  1. Helping to see the ball clearer.
  2. Staying balanced and core stability.
  3. Generating power through the legs.

If you manage to set the legs up correctly on a regular basis then congratulations, you bend like a frog!

If you’re not sure whether you bend like a frog or a giraffe or don’t know how to correct bad habits then the staff at Scarborough Tennis Academy can help you correct your posture and leg position. We have 8 professional tennis coaches, 3 of them qualified club professionals and the other 5 junior development coaches.

If you’re in Perth, Western Australia then come for a free session at Scarborough Tennis Academy by mentioning this blog. You will be amazed at how simple we will make things for you.

And remember, whether you bend like a frog or a giraffe make sure you get some rest.
